Every country has negatives, and I think people will highlight or hide India's negatives depending on their intentions to go back (or not).;) It helps in justifying one's decision.
Before we start comparing India & China, take a look at how many Chinese immigrants have either gone back or have decided to go back vs. Indians.
If educated & materially well settled people decide to go back to India and work for the betterment of the country, I dont see why things will not improve.

I think there are many ways to look at it. Doing Free service , yes it is a form of Gandhigiri, but will that cause the lawmakers to recognize us and pass laws in favor o fus..I do not think so.
I think our situation is no different than people in South Africa in Gandhian times. How Gandhi fought for them is by writing and writing and pestering the Authorities to reduce unfair taxes on Indians in SA and to solve other problems they had like cannot ride in the same Trains/cars as Whites etc...., fighting for their rights in a Vocal but Non Voilent - non aggressive approach.
We, in this post , have equated Gandhigiri with - divide ur attention - Go Do MBA- be occupied with something else while u are retrogressed, furthur ur career/skills,,,etc I do not think that is what Gandhigiri is about i.e. doing something for the self, but instead do it for the community. In this case IV is our community and its leaders are doing the right thing for our cause and if we continue to support that by adding members, funds we will do a fair bit of gandhigiri towards our cause.

Not everyone has the luxury to go to home country to work for one year. Its like telling the Eb3 person to port to EB2. Do you accept that. There are so many issues need to be factored in. So lets not get into something which is not fair or not possible for every one. They system is f*&ked up. thats the fact. When the system is not fair, we fight to fix and not finding the loopholes.
There is a difference, my friend. Porting to EB2 means you have to spend LOTS of $$$ and time and effort to get masters degree.
No matter how you look at it, it is not wise to hack away at any door that's open to all. We should look at expanding our vistas, not shrink it. What if I tell you I am thinking of starting up a co in India, so some day I can make it here using the EB1 route? Why do you want to prevent me from availing this opportunity and making my sacrifices -- just because you feel it will help YOU move forward by ONE INCH?

Has anybody called the USCIS customer service number regarding AP ?
If we have a emergency reason to travel out of the country, can we call the customer service and request expedited processing of AP ?
One my friends got his wife's AP approved by scheduling an appointment with local InfoPass office. but you need a valid reason and proof for that. In his case he got his father in law's medical certificate from India.

My friend, "USA point of view is multinational executives can potentially create jobs", but the reality is the other way round. They are here to to make the transition happen from Onshore to Offshore. I have complete knowledge on how this EB1 thing works , as I was one of them once upon a time before taking up my current job.
I'll stop and leave it here....
The original intention of EB1 (all three categories) was to have exceptional contributors like scientists/researchers/managers, etch to have highest priority in getting GC. Now over time people have found out loop holes as the language of the requirement criteria has a lot of ambiguity. I guess intention of the current memo is to over scrutinize the claims in these applications to ensure that only genuine candidates qualify. Again this is not fool proof and people will find a roundabout. The desparate condition of the EB green card waiting list is causing people to try and move to the higher preferance category either by using correct means or by using loopholes.

Forgot to mention, my attorney did state that their office received an approval 2 weeks back whose priority date was not even close to current. She did not share the specifics.
I just checked my online status and it doesnt have any updates since 2007, states its received and pending... Not sure how current is the online info.

09/28/2007: Depressing News for the Year-End Backend 485 Delays and Potential Waste of Visa Numbers for FY 2007
Unconfirmed sources indicate that two days before the end of FY 2007, there may be a substantial number of 485 applications for which visa numbers are available but have yet to be adjudicated, indicating that some visa numbers could be wasted this year. We know that the Service Centers have been working day and night and did not have enough resources to deal with the crisis which was brought about by the recent Visa Bulletin fiasco. We just hope for the better new fiscal year that will start from October 1, 2007.
This is horrible. We need to know how many numbers have been wasted due to notorious inefficiency of USCIS. This also raises an important question why DOS does not allocate the entire 140,000 on Oct 1st when there is tremendous backlog in the system. Also, it is ridiculous that USCIS does not release the Number of backlogged applicants in its system.!!
