I was totally overwhelmed. After yesterday’s round, which took about 24 hours to close (estimation, I didn’t check), I was worried if we will be able to finish this round. For many of us, GC journey is just started. All of us have seen how difficult it was to cross the first tide that shattered our lives for 15 full days - can we forget the 15 days of darkness (2nd-17th July)?... We've heard the agonizing stories of those who're on this boat for years now. With the backlogs and all, this journey is far from over from them too..
This journey will have many more painful and frustrating tides...
We have many adversaries who are united and resolved not to let us succeed.
IV rescued us this time, it helped us in overcoming the first tide.
Now we need to strengthen it for the future. Your small contributions made today will go long way.
Just imagine, if we are successful in making a change that allows using 200000 wasted visa numbers, then it can shorten the wait time by, probably, an year or two. And this is just one example. Legal immigration system requires many more improvements. It will not happen unless we've some representation and unity. IV provided that platform to us.
If we're not united and potent, then many bills are waiting to harm us. There are big-shot politicians, media people and groups who are doing whatever they can to harm us. We've witnessed and they've not stopped it. They are relentless..
We cannot be a sitting duck for them.

The unbelievable growth in India made me explore a bit in terms of investments, ended up with the financial advise and recommendation from experts that we cannot directly invest in equity as an NRI. Only investment allowed it seems, for NRI is in real estate. Not sure whether this is true. There holds the surprise I could not add up the numbers in real-estate in India. Real estate in India is darn expensive even by international standards (with per capita GDP of $700->$2500 per annum).
Flats in Indian hub cities: 2-bedroom, 1000 sq ft apartment for average $200,000-$300,000 and above. (www.99acres.com) Condos in most major metros in USA: 2-bedroom, 1000 sq ft average $200,000-$300,000 (google housing)
Given that, median income in US is 50 times more than India. I thought the Indian cities are up in bubble. Next, look at agricultural land prices.
Agricultural land in Northern part of India is average $50000 - $250,000 per acre (www. 99acres.com) where in east, west and south is about $20000-$200,000. In Villages its about $15000 to $50000 per acre.
Agricultural land in US is in the range of $6000-$15000 per acre. ($12,000 per acre in NJ, $6,000 per acre in California and $8,000 per acre in Florida. From USDA website)
Now You can do the math. Commercial land is even more expensive in india.
The reason, people say, population density. Now lets look at this factor, the density in India is much higher than USA. But, compare to NJ, NJ is actually slightly more densely populated than most states in India. Its very interesting reading everyone's stories. To me GC represents freedom. Freedom to work for whom you want to, in a field you want to, not to work for someone you don't want to. To start your own buisness, to do all those things which US is known for. This country encourages entrepreneurs and I would like to be one, one of these days :).

Never goto ICICI bank. Only crooks and criminals are working there. No ethics and only inhuman treatment. My friend took a home loan from this bank and he is suffering now.

They have the best service amongst all banks in the country, and so they charge for it. Ultimately its a trade-off - you can decide whether you want to go cheap or require good service.
As some posters pointed out earlier, its extremely easy to apply for a home loan through ICICI Bank sitting here in the US. I dont know of any other Indian banks that would provide you the same level of convenience.

My Loan is not Jumbo loan, its under 400K
I don't have 20% down. But I was speaking to the Loan officer, he was telling, it doesn't matter if you put more down or not, 3yr forward continuous visa is req. I never heard this earlier.
I finally got the Loan Approved !
The underwriters was OK with my H1B + I-140 Approval + I-485 Reciept.
Thank you all for the tips and leads.
After a long 60 day wait, I m finally getting the house on Monday. :)

That contradicts US Embassy provisions of H1 stamping, when you first go for the visa interview. Doesn't the US Embassy/Consulate state that you should be able to prove your intent NOT to abandon your country of origin, show you family ties, financial connections. Am I right? I can give a ton of links from US Consulate web sites with those exact words.
Now, what you are talking is dual intention: get H1B visa and get on the permanent residence highway, at the earliest opportunity.
It's OK to start with an empty kitty in SS and Medicare account, just when are about to get your Green Card than to walk back to your country losing 10 to 20 grand of your own money after 6 or 7 years. Uncle Sam should not collect SS Tax and Medicare from temporary workers. Period.
Although on first reading I was agreeing with the person who indicated that deducting SS and Medicare from non-immigrants does not make sense, lets look at it from another perspective... most of us would agree that more than 50 to 60% of non-immigrants or dual intent immigrants (read H1 visas for the purpose of this thread) are trying to obtain their permanent residency. Now, if the SS and Medicare are not deducted while you are on a H1B (boy, the employers would love this because as per law they have to match your deduction dollar for dollar) and you get your green card, you would be essentially starting with an empty kitty (i.e. the benefits that you would have accrued over the 9-10 years that it took you to get your GC are zero. Now, whose loss is that? I think, the better alternative would be the proposal by Sen. Kyle/Sen. Cornyn where they advocate that a temporary worker who has to go back will get the money when he leaves. If you don't and get your GC done, then the money goes into the SS/Medicare kitty and that way nobody loses.:)

If you apply on premium processing then fees is huge, lot of money, if you apply before hand I mean 6 months back before the expiry of Visa, then not this much money as fees, last time I opted for premium processing.

My take is that Sen. Cornyn's bill is too ambitious and tries to solve ALL the problems. It is never going to fly, especially in this political environment.
We should focus on EB retrogression relief and try to get in only the absolute minimum relief needed to eliminate current backlogs.
In my opinion, this is the absolute minimum:
1) Clear DOL backlogs in BECs
2) Recapture lost visa numbers
3) Dont count dependants
4) Raise per-country cap to 10%
If we can only these rolled in to amendment, it should be easy to pass. We can start an awareness initiative to educate the senators and ensure it passes. If we shoot for too much, its next to impossible. Thats the sad reality.
Lets ask first ..to fix the USCIS lethargy..

In fact I got the impression that one of them didn't have much clue as much as some experienced IV members have. (He said if job titles are different than you have issues...) There are many people hanging on to their current employer due to confusion on this issue and potential effect on pending GC.
and the great question continues to haunt: can a person keep working legally on EAD status if his/hers I-485 gets revoked in error by CIS? or he will be forced to resign from a new job when his MTR is being filed or in progress??? This is really killing me. Who has the answer? if anyone knows, please please share!
